There’s a new buzz among bourbon enthusiasts and locals alike about the opening of the new Potter Jane Distillery in Springfield, Kentucky. Last year Denny Potter, Master Distiller and Jane Bowie head of innovation and blending for Maker’s Mark left the iconic bourbon maker to peruse new, and at that time, undisclosed ventures. Now the bourbon’s out of the barrel and the official groundbreaking for the new distillery heralded the introduction of Potter Jane on September 13, 2023.

The location so close to Bardstown is no surprise as it’s known to be the center of the bourbon making universe. Potter Jane Distilling Company will sit on 36,000 square feet on a 153-acre campus, and the pair predict they will employ 40 team members when fully operational. The distillery will store 45,000 barrels for maturation onsite. With additional warehouse space accommodating 24,000 casks. Construction begins this fall of 2023.

The Robb Report has shared information from an interview with Jane Bowie that the distillery will make wheated bourbon, rye bourbon, and a small amount of rye whiskey using a copper column still with a copper doubler.

The Company will contract distill for other brands while their own brand (yet unnamed) matures.

Congratulations to the Potter Jane Distilling Company from The Bourbon Experience on this new venture. As the bourbon industry expands and grows at a previously unmatched pace, the introduction of a new distillery by time tested industry leaders launching their own dream from the foundation of Maker’s Mark, one of the most storied and respected brands in the industry is an encouraging view into the future. We can’t wait for a tasting opportunity in the next eight or so years.
